The Kundah hydro-electric project is the one of the biggest schemes executed to generate electricity in the Tamil Nadu state. The group of peaks Devarbatta, Karaikada, Koulingabetta and Porthimund, all over 2400 Metres ASL (above sea level) in Nilgiris drain their water into the two streams, the Avalanche and the Emerald. These two dams along with Upper Bhavani form the major source of water for Kundah hydro-electric project. Kundah hydro-electric project is a symbol of India-Canada friendship and co-operation. KUNDAH POWER HOUSE - 1WATER SOURCE - Avalanchi & Emerald Dam KUNDAH POWER HOUSE - 2WATER SOURCE - Kundah forebay dam, Tail race water of Power House-1 & It has a forebay capacity is 1000 Cusec. KUNDAH POWER HOUSE - 3WATER SOURCE - Pegumbahallah Dam, Nirali Pallam and Kattery Weir & It has a forebay capacity is 1800 Cusec. KUNDAH POWER HOUSE - 4WATER SOURCE - Pillur Dam ,Tail race water of Power House III & It has a forebay capacity is 6000 Cusec. KUNDAH POWER HOUSE - 5WATER SOURCE - Western Catchment -1, Upper Bhavani Dam & It has a forebay capacity is 700 Cusec. KUNDAH POWER HOUSE - 6WATER SOURCE - Water from Western Catchment - 2 & 3 Dams, Porthimund Dam, Parsons Valley Dam & It has a Forebay Capacity is 683 Cusec. Pykara-Moyar hydro-electric schemePykara region has well protected Sholas, Toda settlements, undistributed grassy meadows and also a good wildlife habitat. Pykara is considered very sacred by the Todas, the tribal people in Nilgiris. River Pykara orginates from Mukurthi peak and drains from Pykara and Sigur, on the northern side of the Nilgiris form the River Moyar. Pykara and Sigur have got extremely steep slopes down which the river flows through a series of cascades. Mukurthi dam is in the upstream of river Pykara and larger Pykara dam immediately below and the waters from the dam are taken to Glenmorgan fore bay and diverted for power generation to Singara power house. Glenmorgan, is ecologically rich forest spot with wonderful sholas and wildlife habitats. The Glenmorgan reservoir taps additional inflow into the fore bay. The tailrace waters from Singara power house are taken to Maravakandy dam through canals, and again taken to Moyar power house further down in the Moyar valley for power generation. Tail race waters from the Moyar power house are let out into the river Moyar. PYKARA POWER HOUSE / SINGARA - 7WATER SOURCE - Water from Mukuruthy Pykara, Sandynallah and Glenmorgon Dam & It has a forebay capacity is 351 Cusec. PYKARA MICRO POWER HOUSE - 8WATER SOURCE - Water from Pykara Dam and has Maximum Head of 113 Feet and Minimum Head of 25.23 Feet & It has a Dam Capacity is 300 Cusec. MOYAR POWER HOUSEWATER SOURCE - Water from Moyar forebay Dam, Maravakandy Dam, Pyakara power house tail race & It has a Dam Capacity is 446.25 Cusec. MUKURTHY MICRO POWER HOUSEWATER SOURCE - Water discharge from Mukurthy Dam & It has a Dam Capacity is 1.98 M. MARAVAKANDY POWER HOUSEWATER SOURCE - Water discharge from Pykara Power House & It has a Dam Capacity is 430 Cusec. Pykara Ultimate Stage Hydro Electric Project (PUSHEP)WATER SOURCE - Water from Pykara & dam is not used for irrigation |
