| Bird Poacher Caught in Gobichettipalayam |

14 September, 2009, Gobichettipalayam Karuppusamy, a bird poacher from Pudukadu, Nanjaigoundanpalayam near Gobichettipalayam was caught red-handed along with a weapon and dead birds. On inspection the bag contained 4 dead birds including Blue Rock Pigeon, Tree Pie, Crow Peasant and an unidentified bird (smaller than munia). The poacher was handed over to Tamil Nadu Forest Department and was charged under Wildlife Protection Act (1972) and fine of Rs. 3,000/- was levied. The anti-poaching operation was carried out by V.V.Vetrivel, an advocate and an OSAI activist from Gobichettipalayam. |
