Save Western Ghats March covered a distance of nearly 500 kms from Cumbum to Ooty, during which committed members of OSAI along with Tamil Nadu Green Movement conveyed the message of conservation to the people living in the fringe areas of the Western Ghats.  Street plays, songs, posters, banners and brochures were used to educate people on the need to conserve the Western Ghats, its flora and fauna for posterity.

The environmental awareness march was inaugurated by Mr.ATUL ANAND I.A.S Collector of Theni District on 01-10-2001 at Cumbum and Mr.K.S.NEELAKANDAN, Principal, Forest College Mettupalayam gave the Valedictory address on 09-10-2001 at Mettupalayam. Dr.Jeevanantham is the matermind of the march. Mr.K.Kalidasan and Mr.Jayachandran led the team. Staff and students of schools, colleges and universities participated actively and conveyed the message of saving Western Ghats.

“Wetlands are areas of marsh, fen, peatland or water, whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, with water that is static or flowing, fresh, brackish or salt, including areas of marine water the depth of which at low tide does not exceed six metres."
