Earth Day is observed around the world in celebration of the environment and with the idea of protecting the environment.

Earth Flag

To mark the World Earth day observance, we distributed handbills on the do’s and don’ts at the Gandhipuram central bus stand, in Coimbatore to the passengers travelling to the Nilgiris. Osai activists K. Kalidasan, M. Ganesh, K.R. Karthikeyan, Kovai Sathasivam and Avainayagam along with students’ volunteers handed over the handbills to these passengers with an appeal:
“Queen of Hills with lush green pastures is just not a tourist spot – it is the spot for origination of many rivers and a purifier of the air to enable human beings to breath healthy. Let your visit not result in threat or danger to the rich flora and fauna that made UNESCO declare the Queen of Hills as the Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve”.

The Earth day handbill also contained the following points.

  • Never carry plastics with you or leave them behind in the Nilgiris since they could kill wildlife and endanger the ecological balance.
  • Do not feed the wildlife with cooked food since it would leave the wildlife sick. The jungles have enough to feed the wildlife.
  • Jungles are not recreation spots for entertainment, every visitor should learn to remain silent and enjoy the nature at its pristine glory in peace.
  • Preserving nature is a must, since it alone has got the ability to make humanity live in good health.
