Whenever we ask someone "Have you seen a house sparrow?" the reply is inevitably a big “yes” followed by the statement “Nowadays it has become very scarce.” All agree on the point that the population of house sparrow is declining. If we are faced with questions like "From when and where the decline was noticed? How many birds are now thriving? Where is the concentration of population?" What are the factors influencing population concentration? No one has any concrete data to answer these ecologically important questions.

OSAI, with the network of its members and other enthusiastic volunteers, is attempting to build a history of sparrow sighting reports in Coimbatore. All the nature enthusiasts are welcome to support this endeavor which could help in saving our little feathered friend from retreat.
