OSAI activists were informed about an illegal tree felling that was taking place in front of Redfields INS Agrani. On inspection, a well grown Pongam Oil Tree (Pongamia pinnata) had been felled by the EB officials without getting proper permission. Actually, the tree was not causing any high degree of hindrance to the passing electric transmission lines. When enquired, EB staff were not clear why they opted for cutting the whole tree instead of pruning. Air force officials present at the scene were supporting the EB officials blindly without any proper reason. When the activists questioned the authorities, they were answering irresponsibly. Immediately, a complaint was made to RDO, who is the actual appellate authority responsible for issuing clearance for tree felling. On his direction, Tahsildar was sent to the site for clarification. OSAI activists argued their cause perfectly which convinced the officials. The activists left after the Tahsildar promised to take legal action against the illegal tree felling. |
